PERMISSION TO EMBRACE THE BEAUTIFUL REALITY

One of the hardest realities to face in life is that no matter who you are or what you do, eventually, we all run out of time. Even with the best time management skills, there never seems to be enough time for all the things we want to do.

However, there’s another side to this. In life, we get to face another reality: The reality that life is filled with other moments that make us forget about time altogether.

There are thousands of instances why paying attention to time is useful, but there are billions of other instances where time doesn’t matter at all. We may measure the progression of a career or relationship by how much time it takes to reach a certain landmark, but when we’re laughing our deepest belly laugh, we’re not counting the seconds. When we’re dancing along to our favorite song, we’re not counting the minutes. When we’re lost in the moment with the person we love or deep into the book speaks to the lowest octave of our soul, we’re not worried about the hours we spend in that space. We may not be able to give up on keeping track of time altogether, but maybe, we can seek to create more moments in our lives where we don’t have to worry about time.

Perhaps the time we spend
worrying if we’ll have enough time
in the future
to do all the things
we want to do
can be spent
looking for things
in the present moment
that awaken us to the point
of forgetting about time altogether.

Perhaps we can
keep our calendars and watches
while also recognizing
for some days,
moments
plans
and dreams -
they were meant to set aside
a mindful resistance to perfection,
and openness to simply
enjoying
the ride
for all of time.

Word of the day: Moment (n): a very brief period of time (Oxford Languages)
Affirmation: Today, I embrace the beautiful reality that time is not the only way to measure what’s important in life.
Journal: Make a list: What people, places, and moments make you forget about checking the time? Try to think of at least one for each 3 categories.
