YOU ARE FURTHER ALONG THAN YOU THINK
When they look at you, they have no idea what you have been through. They have no idea of the range of mountains you traveled just to be here. But I hope you remember. I hope you never forget your strength. I hope you never forget your progress and just how much you have overcome.
And when I talk about the range of mountains you have traveled through, I don’t just mean the major events in your life. I also mean the small rocks tumbling down the mountainside of your heart. The part of you that has been shaken awake due to unexpected heartbreak. The ridges of your heart carved with a sense of loss and unease but you never figured out how to put it into words. I am also talking about how you have continued to do the work, slowly but steadily. You have continued to get out of bed when you didn’t feel like it. You have continued to make time for poetry, art, photography, friendship. It would have been so easy to have given up by now, and yet, here you are. You have continued to find Light along the path.
So take heart, brave one. Remember the roads that led you here. Remember the times you were not sure you would make it another year. You made it. You truly made it, further than you ever thought you would. After everything you went through, you bloomed, anyway. You grew, anyway. After so many things had changed.
You have known what it means to lose, and you have also known what it means to look within and find that courage to come back stronger than you’ve ever been. And that’s the reason why you’re able to have joy right now, because you have seen the other side of it. You have known what it feels like to be at the bottom and the only thing to do is look up. You are able to have deep gratitude for Light because you have known what it means to be deep in the shadows. You know what it means to make it through what it seems impossible. You know what it means to rise above.
Keep rising. Keep rising up each day, even though you don’t know what the future holds. You may fear how things can change, and you may wonder if you’re equipped for this journey, and at the same time, this is true: you are further along than you think. Even when it doesn’t seem like it. Keep traveling through this. Keep traveling through this knowing that even when you don’t have words for the wisdom and strength you’re gathering, this journey is an embodied experience. You don’t have to be able to articulate what strength looks in your life right now to know that strength is finding you right here on the journey. And to trust that even when you can’t see it, out here, on the road, you are still becoming.
Never forget your strength. Even when it’s hard to see it.
