MAY YOU MAKE ROOM FOR SLOWING DOWN
Let the process of discovering joy in unexpected places be like welcoming the warm sunlight in the midst of a cold winter—a gentle, uplifting reminder that beauty and aliveness can be found in the simplest of moments. And when you are able to notice these small moments, they are not random, one-offs that only matter just in that moment. You are also cultivating skills that will only continue to grow.
Let the process of finding joy right where you are light up the mind with possibilities of how you might enrich daily life right here. This doesn’t just mean finding a way to make life sweeter and happier, but instead, recognizing that amidst all the stresses and pain of daily life, any ounce of goodness you find is worth nurturing and sharing.
If you’ve ever been excited for someone who was excited for something that had nothing to do with you, then you know how powerful joy can be. There are times where the sheer joy of a complete stranger enthusiastically encountering a meaningful experience can have an impact on everyone else who witnesses it. And this kind of shared moment doesn’t have to be something like winning an award or making a big announcement. It can be the moments where someone finally got to experience something for the first time that they’ve waited their whole life for. This can also look like witnessing someone receive something that’s actually quite small and might not mean that much to everyone else, but it means a lot to them. In those spaces, even outside, you can feel how truly powerful that experience is, even if you’re not directly experiencing it yourself.
So, imagine if you allowed yourself to have that kind of excitement in your life, too. To realize that the same joy and aliveness you see others experiencing is something that you are worthy of as well. It might look different for you, but it can still be beautiful.
Keep looking for moments of joy worth engaging in and sharing. Let yourself experience that without doubting that you’re worthy. In the same way you would support joyful moments for the people you care about, may you know you are worthy of that too.
