FOR THE ONE WHO IS WAITING..

For the one who is waiting:

We all know that in one way or another waiting is a natural part of life. However, knowing this intellectually doesn’t make it any easier in practicality. This is especially true if we don’t know what we’re waiting for, how long we will have to wait, or if whatever is on the other side of the waiting will actually give us the peace we are longing for.

From waiting on a reply to a message, to waiting on test results, to waiting to finally feel like we have clarity about what we are doing in life, there are a million different things that any of us could be waiting for in any given moment. While it is impossible to know the timing of it all and how everything will fall into place, what we do have in the present moment is this: space. Space that exists before we make it over that mountain. The waiting is an uncertain space that will require us to trust and it will also invite us to be present in the moment in ways that we haven’t been able to before. The waiting creates space for us to see life as it really is...and how  even here, the sun continues to rise up every single day, gracefully singing to us, “there is still more ahead of you.”
So here’s to recognizing that for all of the challenges that come with waiting, perhaps in many ways, the waiting creates space. You may not be able to see the future, but maybe, you can start to see the present more clearly. You may not be able to get all of the answers to your questions right now, but maybe, you can start to ask new questions:

“What can I learn here?
“How can I rest here?”
“How can I learn to breathe through this very moment?”
“How can I make the most of where I am?”
“How can I extend grace to myself? And to others?”
The waiting is filled with questions…questions you and I might not be able to answer in an instant. Questions that might have to linger for a while. And at the same time, there is also space in the waiting. Space to approach differently than before…more gently, more openly, and with more and more of a focus on syncing yourself to rhythms of grace that will continue to find you no matter what you are waiting on.
