EVEN HERE, THERE’S ROOM FOR FLEXIBILITY IN LIFE

There are times in life when we step into something new, and while we are excited, we may also be perplexed by the anxiety and worry that arise. We might start to wonder, "What have I gotten myself into?" We travel forward into the unknown, our hearts longing to embrace the bright newness of the day, but the brightness of the sun weighs heavily on our brows. We furrow our brows, tuck our chins, and try to avoid the light. Because, for all of their excitement, new beginnings don't always feel like wonder and possibility after the first few days or weeks. New beginnings can sometimes feel lonely, even in the middle of the day, when you're surrounded by people and tons of activity. You may even be aware of everything that is going on around you and feel the heat of it all, but you also feel alone.

In this space, I hope you can give yourself permission to take your time not only finding your rhythm here but also finding the words for what you are feeling. You might have to fill a hundred pages of your journal with nothing but the things you're trying to say before you come up with just a few words that reflect what you're feeling. You may need to speak with more people before you find someone who "gets it." You may need to devote some time to supporting causes and initiatives that are important to you because, despite all that remains unknown, you believe in being a support where it matters most.

The brightness of new beginnings may be as strong and intense as the summer sun at noon, but even that bright summer sun surrenders to a sunset...the sky fills with color, then darkness, and you rest.

I can't tell you how long the sun will be in the noon position in whatever feels like a new beginning in your life, but I can tell you that in the midst of it all, it's perfectly normal to feel small at times, and it's perfectly fine if you don't feel excited and energized to propel forward all of the time. Maybe you can just sit and enjoy the sun's warmth from the shade of the nearest tree right now. Perhaps you can be excited about the bright sunny day from behind the sheer curtains. Perhaps you can ease your way into the light.

Word of the Day: Ease (v) "move carefully or gradually." (Oxford Languages)
Affirmation: "I am free to ease into new beginnings."
Journal: How can I ease into the sunlight today? What does that look like for me?
