CREATE ROOM TO FEEL YOUR EMOTIONS
May today be one of those days where you allow yourself to create:
Create room for rest.
Create conversation.
Create room to feel your emotions.
Create a photograph on your phone of the most ordinary thing.
To create is to be present to life. To create is to recognize that right here, in this present moment, the materials of ordinary existence are worth being grateful for and interacting with.
We live in a world where so many things have already been created that it may begin to feel as though creating something new won't have any real value. Perhaps there's someone in your life who seems to have the most perfectly balanced schedule with room for all the aspects of life to thrive, including rest. It can be easy to look at the schedule they've created and think that there's no use trying to make your own because it can never be like theirs. Or maybe at times it's hard to create conversation when it seems like it's nothing more than small talk that doesn't actually go anywhere. It is perfectly normal to have these feelings; however, may you continue to remember that the act of creating is not about perfection or matching someone else's strengths. Just being in the mindset of creating, even if it's just creating room for a friend to talk something out, or creating room in your day to clear your mind—is significant all on its own. These are small ways of being present that matter more than you know.
If you find it hard to fully grasp the value of small, "created" moments, that's okay, too. We live in a world where creativity is often directly related to some kind of tangible product being made or a specific outcome. There's nothing wrong with this. After all, many of us are probably very grateful for the final product in the form of a delicious home-cooked meal or a warm, hand-knitted scarf. However, as wonderful as these things are, this is not the requirement for being proud of what you've created. If all you did today was create room to breathe between tasks or create space to listen to someone, these are significant moments where something was created that was needed in a very real way. It might not always seem like the most tangible, concrete example, but it matters more than you know.
So here's to practicing courage and creating something new. Whether you are creating room for rest, creating conversation, or creating room to feel your emotions, you are practicing the art of being present right here, and it matters more than you know.
